Driftwood Mandala- Found Mandala, tree root

Jekyll Island, Driftwood Beach, Georgia, April 2020

During our last week in Georgia, we revisited one of our favorite places. Jekyll Island is a barrier island off the coast of South Georgia and is about 8 miles south of Saint Simons Island. It is a bit smaller and less populated. It was originally a private club for wealthy industrialists, their friends, and families to retreat to in the summer. Driftwood Beach faces the channel that runs between Saint Simons and Jekyll and was devastated by a hurricane that destroyed houses and roads, uprooted trees, and generally wreaked havoc on that side of the island. In its wake, those trees became a veritable sculpture garden of beautiful, organic shapes. I took the camera with me hoping to find a mandala created by the wind and the waves.
